1. 1984 Dwight “Doc” Gooden

On July 10, 1984 Dwight “Doc” Gooden, a pitcher for the New York Mets, became the youngest major league baseball player to appear in an All Star game. He was 19. Gooden later went on to play for the Yankees, Indians, Devil Rays and the Astros.

 

2. 1985 New Coke vs.

Old Coke

In April of 1985, the Coca-Cola company announced that it would begin distributing and selling “new Coke,” a different formula for the beloved soft drink that had not been tampered with for 99 years. The announcement was met with uproar, people protested and voiced their opinions loud and clear: No new Coke. On July 10, 1985, Coca-Cola announced that it would be reinstating Coca-Cola Classic. They later rebranded new Coke as Coke II. The product is no longer available in the United States.

 

3. 2002 Dolly Parton Tours after 10 years

Dolly Parton, decorated country music star, announced she would be performing for the first time in over a decade in her Halos and Horns tour in July 10, 2002. The tour spanned the US, Ireland and England. The musician, actress and philanthropist is famous for her top hits like “Jolene” (1973) and duet with Kenny Rogers “Islands in the Stream” (1983). 

 

4. 1980 Jessica Simpson’s Birthday

Jessica Simpson was born on July 10, 1980 in Alibene, Texas and turns 34 today. Simpson is famed for her two albums, “Sweet Kisses” (1999) and “Irresistible” (2001), acting and popular women’s fashion line.

Her brand, Jessica Simpson, contains shoes, clothing and accessories.
