3 Classic Dresses Every Woman Needs for Summer
Trends come and trends go, but a classic piece should last you a lifetime. I focus my closet on classic pieces that are timeless and won't leave me pondering my sanity as I look back at my fashion choices. Like many things in life, fashion can be broken down into simple constants.
Dresses are a summer staple, and while this summer high-low hemlines and crop tops may be in fashion, there are dress shapes you can purchase that will always be flattering and in style. I'd like to share with you three of my favorite dress style for summer.1. The Kimono-Sleeved Dress
At first look, this might not seem like a classic, but lets break it down:
- The soft drapeyness of the sleeves is timelessly flattering.
- Asian brocades have been admired for centuries and work wonderfully for evening- and formal-wear.
- Silk or mock silk is beautiful and flattering on nearly everyone.

2. The Soft Jersey Dress
Summer can be a hot, muggy time--especially if you live in the midwest like me. Nothing is more comfortable on 90-degree days than a nice, soft jersey dress. Bonus points if it has a skater waistline like this one which will help you stay cool. I prefer to buy my jersey dresses in neutral colors and then brighten them up with various accessories--this allows you to feel like you're not wearing the same old thing day in and day out.

Honestly, the wrap dress isn't a classic dress for summer, it's a classic dress always. That said, wrap dresses can be tailored to different seasons easily. Short sleeves and eyelet fabric broadcast a summery aesthetic loud and clear. A dress like this is comfortable and can be dressed up or down depending on where you're headed. Plus the feminine shape is perfect for warm summer nights.
