5 Things to Do During Fashion Week

Fashion Week is here in New York again! From September 3-11, the most well known and highly esteemed fashion designers and icons from around the world will flock here to show off their Spring 2015 collections. Tickets to these red-carpet runway events are hard to come by, but have no fear! There are a multitude of Fashion Week events open to the public for little to no cost.

1. Athleta Crush of Adrenaline Show

September 3, 508 W. 37th St., 6pm

With the up-and-coming popularity of active wear, it was only a matter of time before this sporty, comfortable and practical style of clothing ran down the runway during Fashion Week. According to InStyle, activewear brand Athleta will perform an action packed, adrenaline induced, public fashion show performance that is sure to get the audience inspired to get active. 

 

2. Christian Siriano Fragrance Launch

September 4, 402 W. 13th Street

Whimsical and often over-the-top designer Christian Siriano is launching his new fragrance titled “Silhouette” on September 4. Silhouette will be available for the next 16 days at Siriano’s pop-up shop, The Silhouette Shop, located at 402 W. 13th Street. According to a press release, The Silhouette Shop will feature a Silhouette Selfie Portal and Tweet Bar, a living wall with elements of the fragrance on display, along with the various Silhouette by Christian Siriano products for sale.”

 

3. WindowsWear Fashion Window Walking Tour

Ever wonder what goes into the styling of not just the models but the windows the high-end clothes are displayed in?

The WindowsWear walking tour takes viewers on a 2-hour trek in New York City’s fashion district, viewing and learning about the window displays of famous designers like Bergdorf Goodman, Louis Vuitton and Saks Fifth Avenue, just to name a few. This is a great way to learn some fashion history and see some of the newest looks from the hottest international designers.

 

4. Killer Heels: The Art of the High-Heeled Shoe

September 10-February 15, 2-15 Brooklyn Museum, 200 Eastern Pkway, Brooklyn

The Brooklyn Museum will host a brand new exhibit, Killer Heels: the Art of the High-Heeled Show, beginning on Sept. 10. The exhibit focuses on the history of women’s shoes and their role in culture and fashion over the years. Some of the iconic footwear connoisseurs included in the display are Manolo Blahnik, Chanel, Alexander McQueen and Vivienne Westwood.

 

5. Fashion Plate Prix Fixe

September 4-11, Various Restaurants in Lincoln Square

Along with the arrival of Fashion Week comes the Fashion Plate Prix Fixe. A variety of 25 restaurants in Lincoln Square will be participating in affordable drink, lunch or dinner menus which “gives everyone an exciting opportunity to rub shoulders with other stylish sophisticates while dining in some of the city’s finest dining establishments,” according to the Lincoln Square Business Improvement District. Book your reservations soon, spots tend to fill up quickly!
