Wearable tech as we all know it is the future of fashion. All eyes this week are on Disrupt NYC, as startups, some witty, some cool and some menacing display their new ideas and technologies to revolutionize the world as we know it. Historically, technology tends to succeed when it permeates something we do or use naturallyl and makes that aspect of our life more functionable or accessible.
Sarah Perez, a popular write at TechCruny, recently broke the news about The Memi, A Smart Bracelet for Women, created by Margaux Guerary as at iPhone compatible fashion accessory. For women who carry their cellphones in their handbags ( as they should ) the MEMI "alerts you to incoming calls, texts and calendar events with a discreet vibration". Of course in your bag this vibration may go completely unnoticed, but on the wrist, not so mcuh.
Supposedly the MEMI looks and feels like real jewelry instead of just some "wearable device" ( looking at you Google Glasses ), so it realistically can be integrated into a woman's wardrobe. Coming in silver and gold, the device looks to the outside viewer to be an ordinatry piece of jewelry. I bet from the Techcrunch image above you are not even sure which piece of jewelry the MEMI is. For Guerard's sake, this concept should sell. At the very least, her husband seems to like it.
In all honesty, I can think of a few people I might consider buying it for in the new feature, however I am going to wait for some reviews and critique to come out first. After all, thi sis distruptive technology.
The MEMI will retail for $199, but is avaialbe on pre-order now for $149.
