In a not so shocking turn of events, 11 year old Lucy Li has become the youngest player in history to qualify for the 2014 Women's US Open, at an age when most other girls are beginning to have concerns about puberty and struggling through eary academic courses.

The previous record for the youngest player in the event was Alexis Thompson who competed at 12 years, four months, 18 days in 2007. Lucy Li comes in a full year younger after scoring a 74 and a 68 on the par-72 Old Course on Monday.
Li, of Redwood Shores, California, already has a big win on her resume, capturing the girls 10-11 division at the inaugural Drive, Chip and Putt contest at Augusta that preceded the Masters this year. She beat second-place qualifier Kathleen Scavo by seven strokes at Half Moon Bay. Success typically comes through hard work and determination rather than just sheer luck as Lucy Li had already progressed to the US Women’s Amateur Public Links Championship at the age of 10.
