According to the Business of Fashion, the 26-year-old fashion designer ( River Island ) and pop sensation said that growing up she "didn’t have a lot of access to fashion. Fashion has always been my defense mechanism.” From a very young age, Rihanna would think: “She can beat me, but she can’t beat my outfit.” She believes that she compensates for her weaknesses through her intimate knowledge of fashion, adding: “There are rules, but rules are meant to be broken.”
Popular designer Zac Posen commented on Rihanna's style before the show, calling her a fashion risk-taker who skillfully melds red carpet glamour with a rebellious streak.
“She takes risks and she marches to her own drum and she knows what she likes,” Posen told The Associated Press. He further added that she has a great respect for designers, as Alexander Wang also praised her distinct edge along with Posen.
Of course, never to disappoint, Rihanna received the award wearing a gorgeous translucent gown designedy by Adam Selman.
