Among the plethora of popular fashion blogs portraying personal style and reserved yet "genuine" opinions of sponsored clothing, accessories and footwear ( lavishly donated from brands looking for just the slightest exposure ), it becomes hard to distinguish true fashion journalism from those looking to just ride the wave or those who are just hobbyists and love looking stylish for the world to see.
Brands such as Gabi Fresh, The Blonde Salad and Honestly WTF now dominate the fashion world, more invested in covering their lifestyle and brands they interact with than honest fashion news straight from the runway.
Publications such as Vogue, Elle and Glamour have re-established themselves as the defacto source for fashion news. This is a big divergence from the world created by pioneers such as Bryan Yambao and Susanna Lau.
In fact, some heralds called the restructuring of Fashion Week by IMG in 2013 to be a sign of the times, with consequences to bloggers that had to keep pace with the expectations of increasingly active and revenue starved labels.
