Spray Tanning and the supplemental tanning industry basically thrives on women of the fairer tones that simply want to gain that lustrous glow resembling a one week romp in the Bahamas in only a fifteen minute session in a shower. As with any industry based on this level of vanity, the spray tanning has evolved from the days of just coating the skin in a thick layer of tan, brown or even auburn to a complex array of lotions, body washes and treatments to give you the preferred shade in your own personal setting.
While most women will opt for professional services, advances in contouring and textures of the sprays have resulted in a tanning process that to the unaware eye seems almost natural. But again, the tanning industry in and of itself is based in vanity and like any industry where vanity fairs, there always exists a premium and truly unnecessary product.
Enter the new Diamond Dust Spray Tans, introduced to the market by St. Tropez, a top tanning salary in the UK. As a side note, Kate Moss is the face of the luxury tanning parlor, which distributes its award-winning products through Ulta and Sephora among other locations. The over the top tanning treatment runs at $320 a bottle, along with up to $320 per tanning session, according to the NY Daily News.
“The Diamond Tan is without a doubt THE most luxurious tan possible – when performed, I quite literally am spraying my clients with diamond dust!” says St. Tropez tanning expert Jules Heptonstall. “After the St. Tropez classic spray tan has developed and the skin is gorgeous and golden, I use St. Tropez Diamond Dust and lightly spray and buff onto the shoulders, the arms, the chest and the back to give an all-over luminosity and glisten.
It’s pure luxe.”But why all the buzz about Diamond Dust Spray Tans, a product that has clearly been in circulation for at least a few years? Well, Kim Kardashian apparently had herself decked out in the Diamond Dust for her nuptials, of which some images were released earlier this morning. The unique tan supposedly provides the wearing with a slight glow, particularly when seen in bright settings or for photography laden environments, such as a wedding or red carpet gala.
Euphoria Spa in Tribeca is the only location stateside to offer the Diamond Dust tan at a price of $250 per bottle for the off-the-menu-VIP treatment. Previously reserved for those in the know, Kimye has basically changed the treatment's popularity overnight as now everyone who is anyone wants to possess the luxurious glitter.
“It is very expensive to bring into the States, so we are the only salon that carries it,” says spa owner Kristen Haines. “The Diamond Tan is reserved for our super VIP clients that request it because it is very expensive. St. Tropez only sends it to select spas worldwide.”
While the treatment ( like any hot beauty trend ) is sure to grow in both supply and demand, one thing's for sure, it's still very expensive and will still be for those more inclined to need a tan. Beauty aficionados will find cheaper alternatives, which already exist, just to say they are on trend. While diamonds are forever, here's to hoping Kim washes off the dust sooner rather than later. Also, contrary to popular belief, diamonds are not every girl's best friend.
